Massage Therapy: Let’s Get Serious

Upon making the life changing decision to become a professional massage therapist, there are several things to be considered. You will, of course, want to become certified so that you have a better opportunity of being employable. There are several schools which are well-prepared to train you in the art of massage therapy and will guide you through the certification process. You will want to research your chosen school with the local Better Business Bureau. Another way to research your school is actually speak with current students, or prior students. Perhaps you may even visit some of the local masseuses and ask them where they received their training and how they rated their training as far as how well it prepared them for certification and enabled their professional growth.

Once you have been certified, you may want to work for someone else for a while to learn the ups and downs of the trade. Even though massage therapy is a valuable service and an exciting career, it is still a business. In that it is a profession you will want to conduct yourself professionally and learn all that you can while you can. Through the internet, you can make valuable networking contacts to assist on your chosen path, or simply to help you spend your emotional grievances. When given advice be sure to take it with a grain of salt. Advice comes out of the woodwork when you're trying to make it on your own, and though some advice will be good, always go with what makes you feel comfortable. Remember, this is your business, your livelihood, and so all of the decisions are yours to make, and yours alone.

Once adequately trained you may entertain the notion of opening your own massage parlor. When going from working for someone to working for yourself as a massage therapist your hourly wage may increase tenfold. You will want to consult with a business accountant so that you can plan for applicable taxes and unexpected expenses. Advertising is a very important part of business. There are several types of advertising including online and offline formats. The offline ones include word-of-mouth, there is printed word and another way you can spread the word is to personalize business documents. You will find many massage therapists choose WaterColorsCards for their business cards. Watercolor’s cards are exclusive and directed entirely toward your field to aid you in your pursuit. You may find that you would like to order massage business cards, massage gift certificates, massage postcards, happy birthday postcards, and thank you postcards for your regular clients to help encourage return business. You may be an entrepreneur and an artist, but most of us don't have time to create custom advertising campaigns, and WaterColors is right there with it already prepared for you, right down to your massage therapy business cards. Good luck in your new venture, and always remember, good luck is always either an accident gone wrong or good planning gone right.
