Sacred geometry and Kabbalah – do they relate?

What is the Kabbalah? To understand what this means, one must relate to other aspects. Torah, the first part of the Hebrew Bible, is also known as the Word of God that was revealed to Moses. There are four levels of the study of the Torah.

The first one is Peshat, the mere exterior understanding by simply reading the text. The second level, Remez, refers to the allusions and allegories comprised in the Torah. Derash, the third level, consists of the scriptural exegesis of Rabbis. The Kabbalah, also called the Sod, is the fourth and most important level involves the understanding of the inner meaning found in the Torah.

What is sacred geometry? There are many basic patterns that form the cornerstone of our existence. Sacred geometry consists of a belief system that attributes religious and cultural values to those patterns. The word ‘sacred’ is used because if one would contemplate them, the contemplation would be for the origin of all things.

Now how are these two things related? To create a relationship between the Kabbalah and the sacred geometry, we need to look at the process of Creation. The revelations of the Creator are usually referred to as the Ten Sephiroth. They are different from His hidden aspects and consist of ways in which God delegated his actions in order to create the world.

You may wonder what this has to do with sacred geometry. The Ten Sephiroth are the key components in the most common sacred geometry shape: the Tree of Life. The teachings of Kabbalah relate that through the mystical concept of the Tree of Life, one can understand the process of Creation.

The Tree of Life is directly connected to other shapes considered sacred. These shapes are the Seed of Life and the Flower of Life. The Seed of Life consists of seven circles placed symmetrically, which also form the basis of the design for the Flower of Life. All of these shapes target the creation of the world, an important aspect found in the beginning of the Torah.

As you can see there is a very close relation between the Kabbalah and sacred geometry. The shapes presented afore have been transposed into jewelry, so anyone can have access to them and benefit from their effects. Due to the relationship, they are often named Kabbalah jewelry.
