Sonic the Hedgehog is known to be the fastest and coolest fictional character in the world of video games. It was created by one of the most popular Japanese video game companies called Sega in the early 1990s. In a short time, the game became famous and was on demand by millions of gamers; forcing Sega to produce several comic books and also animated cartoons based on the game franchise.

Sonic the Hedgehog was first introduced to North America (mainly the U.S. and Canada) and then to Europe on the same day in June 23, 1991. Back on those days, Super Mario was a super hero in the gaming world. Sonic the Hedgehog joined the race and competed very well. The game was in demand among the video gamers throughout the 90’s and early 00’s and was both a critical and a commercial success. The game has sold around ten million copies as of March 19, 2008.

Sonic the Hedgehog features many novel elements which helped a lot in contributing to its popularity. It is now widely considered to be one of the greatest games of all time. As a matter of fact, Sonic the Hedgehog is played and enjoyed by millions of people regardless of their age, gender and race.

As a character, Sonic is super fast and ultra smart with full of energy. He is at all times racing from one position to another without even a bit of rest. Sonic’s breezy red sneakers can survive the heat and speed and does not wear and tear due to friction. He loves blue and hates the water because he can not swim. Sonic the Hedgehog is surrounded by his friends and helps them out if they are in danger. Sonic has a stunning method of attack. He can curl up and roll along the ground damaging the enemies around him. He can roll down slopes and gain speed as he moves very quickly.

In the game play, Sonic is full of surprises and wants life to come again to the way it was previous to the evil Dr Robotnik took over; a mad scientist who snatches innocent animals and turns them into evil robots. Dr Robotnik’s wish is to pollute the planet and take over the world and he will stop and no cost. To change things back to normal, Sonic has to face Dr Robotnik on every stage and defeat him. Along the way, he collects golden rings to gain extra life or secret items. It is guaranteed that anyone playing Sonic would enjoy the game and would have a good leisure time.

Besides detailed sound and animation, Sonic the Hedgehog is especially known for its dynamic music which was composed by Masato Nakamura, a member of a popular J-Pop band. In the recent years, Sega has been working hard to develop and take the game to the higher level. At first Sonic was introduced only to Sega Genesis consoles but now it has been introduced to a wider range of latest consoles such as Play Station and Xbox.
