Nokia 7070 Prism with Free Line Rental

By: Sarah Tilley

The Nokia 7070 prism has to be one of the most outlandish looking mobile phones on the market. The Nokia 7070 is the third in the “prism” series, and, like its predecessors the entire design, (as the name suggests) incorporates a series of prisms, forming the buttons on the handset and the battery release catch. The back of the Nokia 7070 prism is also embossed with a prism based pattern, making it a very tactile object. The design is carried forward to the actual shape of the handset, and, whilst this is not prism shaped, the corners are cut off to continue the effect. Fortunately, the screen is a more conventional shape!

As with a number of recent Nokia releases, the 7070 prism is aimed at so called “emerging markets”, i.e. developing countries, so, as you would expect the price is low. At just $70 this is a very affordable handset, and one of the most inexpensive “fashion phones” on the market. In fact, the Nokia 7070 is possibly the cheapest full color phone on the market at the moment.

In spite of the low price tags, most people are likely to choose this mobile phone for its looks rather than its price. Although not to everyone's taste, the Nokia 7070 certainly makes an impression and packs a lot of style for a $70 phone.

As you would expect with a phone of this price, with this kind of style and design it is a little short on features. The Nokia 7070 has a 128 x 160 pixel TFT screen with an indicator light on the outside. It supports basic GPRS browsing and has a basic email client. You can use MP3 downloads as ring tones, but, it does not have an MP3 player included, i.e. you cannot listen to tracks via a headset. There is no camera and Bluetooth is not supported.

The internal memory of the Nokia 7070 prism is just 11MB, however, with no camera or mp3 player to consume memory 11MB should prove adequate for this kind of phone. That will allow users to store a few ring tomes and ample phone numbers. Remember, this is a budget handset, and its primary use is for making voice calls and sending text messages. If you require a more feature-full phone then look elsewhere!

At a mere 78 grams the Nokia 7070 prism is a light weight, compact and all in all very neat little handset. Battery life is quoted at 20 days standby with 5 hours talk time. The battery life is up to 20% greater than competing phones which is very impressive, not to mention useful!

Nokia plan to release the 7070 in quarter 3 of 2008. The Nokia 7070 Prism will be available Black / Blue and Black / Pink combinations. Nokia have not said whether these color schemes are intended to be separate for “boys and girls”, but this is quite likely. Again, this really is an example of Nokia focussing on style rather than function!

As a budget phone the Nokia 7070 prism will be made available on 12 month free line rental contracts shortly after its release.
