You only need to remember this tying rhyme: "fat over thin, fat around again, fat into keyhole, right down the drain". What does this rhyme mean? Here are more detailed steps to tie a tie to help you:
• Fat over thin. Drape the tie around your neck, holding the thinner end on your dominant hand's side. Set more length on the fat side then put the fat end of the thin one to make them cross. Their intersection is where your knot should be.
• Fat around again. Encircle the fat end fully around the thin end and pass the fat right under the thin and back over again. This should leave enough space inside the loop for the fat end to go right into later.
• Fat into keyhole. Pull the rounded part towards your collar button.
• Right down the drain. Drop the fat end right into the loop that you have made then tug it gently on the fat end until the knot is just the right size. You can then pull up the knot into your collar, then voila! You're all set in a matter of seconds.

You can actually slip the knot you made up and down as you wish. However, do not make the mistake of storing your tie knotted. Some people actually leave it that way so they do not have to do everything over the next time. This is not a good practice mainly because it can create wrinkles on your tie, making it more unmanageable to tie again for future use.
