Glass Baby Bottle Uses

They were once the only way your baby could get his milk or formula if the mother did not breastfeed or the breast was available. They were the fixture of any parent who had a newborn child. Glass bottles were rendered obsolete with the introduction of plastics in production. This article will examine why glass baby bottles are making a resurgence and the benefits and disadvantages of using them.

There is a school of thought that believes that the glass feeders are the acceptable feeding device for any child. This is based on the fact that glass is environmentally friendly and it can be recycled. Since they are manufactured from a renewable resource, this is often seen as the product to be used for people who are environmentally conscious. Being dish washer safe and easy to clean, gives glass baby bottles an advantage. For parents who often lose bottles, they need not worry about their glass bottles retaining the rancid smell like their plastic counterparts. Retaining heat is a plus that glass bottles have over plastic, this means they can keep warm longer. If placed in extremely hot water, then it can be sterilized very easily

There are some cons related to the use of glass bottles and they are not without flaws. Another con associated with the bottles is that since they are made out of glass, they have the potential to break very easily. Breakage and glass shattering is a possibility if a baby was to hold a bottle and drop it. People who are against its use also state that if the bottle has a crack or a chip, that some of the shards could make its way into what the baby is eating. Glass is also more expensive than plastic, almost two times the cost.

The increase in the use of glass feeders is a result of a controversy that is beginning to be noticed by the public. Most plastic feeders are made from polyurethane and research is now showing that BPA, a chemical that is used in the production of these bottles; is now starting to leach from the bottles into the food. BPA has been found babies� milk and formula and can pose a health risk, even though people are not sure what the results could be. The chemicals contained in these bottles have some parents worried and you begin to see a shift of people going back to the glass. The change from plastic to glass will be more wide spread once people become aware of this issue.

As popular as they were in the past, they are beginning to make a resurgence, people are taking the time to get them as they are quality. Weighing the risks and benefits of both bottles should be the main role of the parents, they should determine which one is right for their child. Parents choice to switch is aided by the controversy of BPA Plastic bottles.
