Debt - Don’t Fall for the Quick Fix

This article isn’t about knocking companies who promise quick fix solutions to a debt problem, it is more about how people need to be educated about what solutions are available should a debt issue arise.

Not only do people need to be aware what solutions are available, but also which solution is suitable for individual’s circumstances.

It is not the case that one solution fits all. Although the problem is the same, the circumstances are generally unique, therefore a solution that is suitable for one person, may not be the best solution for another.

Companies who promise quick fix solutions to recover from debt are not always looking at which solution is going to benefit the debtor, they could be more interested in how much money they are going to make out of the debtors situation should they take their advice.

I read a title today "Remove Debt Instantly". There is no such thing as removing debt instantly. Their idea of removing debt instantly was to offer a loan to consolidate existing debt. Now correct me if I am wrong, but if you take out a loan in any shape or form, you are in debt.

Consolidation loans are not suitable for everyone, and if a company tells me that I can remove my debt "Instantly", I have to consider whether or not that company has my best interest at hand.

The company is using a play on words, and for people who are in desperate debt situations, this title may appear very appealing as though the company can solve all their problems by a click of the fingers. I can guarantee you; this will not be the case and could end up leaving a debtor in a worse position if they fall for it and it is not a suitable solution for them.

This is a great example as to why it is important for people to be educated when it comes to figuring out how they are going to resolve their financial hardships.

A lot of people right now are feeling the impact of the credit crunch and wondering how they are going to pay their next monthly bills. Quick fix promises are not the way to go to solve this problem.

It is important for people to look hard into what viable solutions are available to help them. Solutions which are not going to be a quick fix leaving them worse off than ever, but solution which promise to give people back their financial freedom and take away their worry of debt.

Debt is not a crime, I think I have said that over and over again to people who feel ashamed of their financial situation. Debt is something that can happen to any one of us at any time for a variety of different reasons.

I read only today that Amanda Staveley, who helped line up a £7 billion cash injection into Barclays bank, was once facing a bankruptcy petition for £1 million from this same bank. She eventually entered into an Individual Voluntary Arrangement and is now doing well.

Amanda would never have anticipated being in that position, but because she guaranteed a loan for a business that failed, she ended up in a lot of debt. There is no shame in that and there was a viable solution which she took which helped her get back on her feet.

Education yourself about debt and which solutions are available are now more important than ever. This is to prevent you from falling for the quick fix scams that are around and to ensure that the solution you choose to take is the right one for you which will put you on the right path to financial recovery.
