Creative Visualisation As A Complimentary Medicine

By: C. Gray Flynn

When you are faced with battling a life threatening illness it can be hard to stay calm and clear about the right course of medicine and therapies to apply. It is easy to feel desperate and to act out of it. Then when, if we don’t see the results we want fast enough, our anxiety levels rise, we become more fear ridden, imagine the worst and end up compromising our healing process by causing our bodies to increases the levels of cortisone (the bodies natural stress hormone that degenerates our bodies) into our blood stream. Of course most of the fear and anxiety we experience is based on assuming the worst, or imagining it, and this is a key point to understanding how creative visualisation affects the health of a person both negatively or positively.

Most of us don’t realise that we are creatively visualising all of the time. Unfortunately, for most of us, we are visualising negative results as opposed to positive ones. Think back on a time in your life when something didn’t turn out as you had hoped. As you reflect on that negative result, can you recall thinking ‘ I knew that was going to happen’ or something similar to that? Maybe deep down you didn’t believe it was going to happen, or weren’t confident that it would even though you really wanted it to. Unfortunately those very thoughts, beliefs and feelings were creative visualisations and sensations that worked to realise the very opposite of what you wanted. When you are anxious about a result, thinking negatively about it, albeit those thoughts are unintended and unwanted, you are literally pouring that mental energy into the exact result you do not want to occur. Subconsciously, you are preparing yourself for that negative end result and making it more likely that it will.

The subconscious cannot distinguish what is real and what is pretend and this is why it is so important to practice turning your focus to the positive things you want to happen in your life, even if you have no idea how the end result is going to occur. Belief really is magic. And whatever you perpetually think about, the subconscious believes it to be true. The very same creative force that works to realise the things you; are thinking negatively about, are worrying about, are afraid of happening, works the same way and equally for positive thoughts; the things you want to happen, the things you happily daydream about. But to give your subconscious the opportunity to work positively on your behalf, you have to make your positive thoughts your habitual thoughts, replacing and reducing the negative ones. Once you do this you will begin to see more positive results. In the case of your health, training yourself to habitually think in a positive way will make you feel more relaxed, more calm, more happy, this is optimum for healing, well being. This in turn results in the amount of cortisone in your blood stream to drop causing the regenerative powers of your body to increase.

But this is just the beginning in applying the power of creative visualisation as a complimentary medicine to heal your body. In understanding this, you can now actively visualise exactly whatever it is you need to heal in your body and practice seeing yourself whole and fully well. For example, lets say you have a problem with your heart. You can practice taking a few minutes throughout the day ‘seeing’ or visualising your heart as being perfectly healthy. You see it as pumping at a nice easy pace, it is not fatty, there the arteries are nice and clean, the valves are opening and shutting as they should ….You get the idea. But if you have a problem visualising what this might look like them get a picture of a perfectly healthy heart, or watch a video of one working exactly as it should. By doing this you will have a precise image of what you want to achieve. Keep that image in mind and refer to it regularly. Imagine how it feels to feel your healthy heart beating in your chest. Keep doing this and trust the process, and your ability to heal yourself. Remember, your body knows exactly what to do, believe in it and trust it to do its best job.

C. Gray Flynn. I have spent many years in the study of personal development. Diagnosed with leaukemia 11 years ago, I used the power of meditation, autosuggestion and visualization to heal myself. I knew I could do this because I realised it was the way I was using my mind in the first place that made me ill. Our mind is the most precious resource for creating the life we want and whatever way we work it - works! www.positivemindstates.com
