Buying and using a deep fryer in the kitchen

By: Jacob Georgeson

Food tastes much better when it is deep fried. Put aside the health implications of fried food there is nothing much that beats crispy deep fried food. Almost anything can be deep fried from meat to vegetables.
Deep frying is an easy process. Simply buy an deep fryer such as the Oster 0DF540 fill it up with oil press the button and dip your food inside the boiling oil. Different food requires different frying time and if you are not sure how long you should fry food for simple take a look at it every so often and take it out when it looks nice and crispy in the outside.
Deep frying is not about health. It is not about dieting either. It is purely about taste and texture. There is a saying that everything fried tastes good. While it might be an exaggeration it is true that most food tastes better when deep fried. For some reason our taste palettes like fried food and maybe it is not just the taste maybe the chewing on the crispy coated food is also something our brain likes.
The most common deep fried food is meat. Chicken wings drumsticks and thighs are just one example. Usually the meat is not simply deep fried as is but it is first coated with bread crumbs or something similar that when deep fried creates a tasty and crispy coating.
You do not need to be a chef to know how to deep fry. Take extra care when deep frying though since you are dealing with boiling hot oil. The Oster 0DF540 for example is a simple and inexpensive deep fryer that sports a 3 liter capacity for deep frying larger food or large portion at one time. Temperature control is automatic and the deep fryer reaches the needed frying temperature quickly and safely.
The Oster 0DF540 handles temperature and safety by providing a transparent viewing window eliminating the need to constantly open the deep fryer lid and get exposed to oil splashes. It also provides isolated cold handles for moving the fryer although it is always recommended that you only move the fryer after the oil is cooled down. The Oster 0DF540 also provides immediate feedback on its temperature and status via a series of light indicators conveniently positioned on its front. Cleaning the Oster 0DF540 is easy simply put the different parts in the dishwasher as they are all dishwasher safe.
The Oster can also be put in standby mode in which the oil temperature is set to low non cooking heat but it is not completely cooled down. It is very useful if you need to make a second or third bath during dinner or when hosting guests. A simple push of a button brings the temperature to its cooking level in no time.
Deep fryers oil is usually used for more than one frying. As such it gets dirty with food residue and other burned food parts. The Oster does not have an oil filter that is available in other more expensive fryers and that gets rid of the food residue for you. Instead you will have to manually clean the oil by pouring it out and back in while cleaning what looks like non oil particles and fried food.
