Body Shape Selection Helper

By: Sam Benton

We all like to think our body shape is unique. In doing so, we also believe that finding that perfect dress or the perfect jeans, is an impossible task given our unique figures. Most of us don’t fall for the ‘one size fits all’ mentality so favoured by retailers so we end up with a compromise before we’ve even begun!
I’m afraid for those of us who think we are truly ‘unique, the answer is that we all do fall into one those dreaded manufacturers categories to some degree, whether we‘re comfortable with the idea or not.
Regardless of the types of clothes you’re looking for, take advice or take five minutes to review your shape in the mirror and decide for yourself exactly what body shape you are. Once that honest decision has been made, go ahead with confidence and select clothes for your body type.
Just about all of us fall into one of these categories:
Boyish Figure:
As the name indicates, this figure is more straight up and down no real difference between the waist and the hips.
Apple:
This body type is commonly associated with people who gain weight in their middle section, thus giving them the round midsection or "apple" type appearance.
Pear:
People with this body type are typically people who gain their weight specifically on their hips, rear, and thighs. This gives them an general appearance of a pear.
Hour Glass:
The curvy figure is often the most challenging to fit for clothing since it is represented by a full bust, narrow waist and shapely hips. The classic "hourglass" figure.
Other common body shapes are: The Bell, the Skittle, the Vase, the Goblet and the Cello.
Once you’ve determined your body type, you can set off on your search with confidence. Select clothes with care. If you have an hour glass figure, select clothing that fits your curves and offers the correct bust support for a good profile. If you are pear shaped, you may want to look for clothes that minimize your hips and rear. Trousers and skirts that are dark in colour, paired with lighter coloured shirts are often a good combination.
Go for clothes that give you a boost in confidence, and make you feel good about your body, no matter what your shape.
Remember: Online shopping has opened the floodgates to your choice of accessible sizes, prices, brands and styles. Your choice is no longer restricted to your local high street; there is an ever changing choice online, every hour of every day.
Happy Shopping
